Vienna Glitters with Cartier’s Nature Sauvage High Jewellery Extravaganza

Cartier, the epitome of luxury, has unveiled its latest high jewellery collection, Nature Sauvage, in the resplendent city of Vienna. This ‘timely yet timeless’ collection beautifully captures the essence of the wild, featuring an array of exquisite creatures, from zebras to the iconic panther, meticulously crafted in diamonds and gold.

The 87-piece collection reinterprets Cartier’s legendary animal motifs with a sophisticated flair. The range includes necklaces, brooches, earrings, rings, and striking jewels that evoke a mesmerizing array of fauna – turtles, flamingoes, and other splendid beasts and birds.

AMPHISTA: Sinuous and symmetrical, two reptiles snake around the neck. Side by side, their diamond scales are set with emeralds, and their heads crowned with kite-shaped diamonds. Between them are nine octagonal emeralds from Colombia totalling 14.72 carats.

Vienna transformed into a hub of elegance as luminaries like Sofia Coppola, Elle Fanning, Kimberley Anne Woltemas, and Anna Sawai gathered for a glamorous soirée. Held at the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK), this star-studded event marked the culmination of two days filled with waltzes, ballet performances, and evening cocktails, creating a truly unforgettable celebration.

MOCHELYS: Combining surprise and creativity, a turtle is concealed within a seemingly entirely abstract necklace, enhancing an imposing 71.90-carat rubellite. The game of camouflage is revealed alongside its versatility: the animal appears in its entirety, head and legs included, when detached to turn it into a brooch.

MOCHELYS: Under a 71.90-carat rubellite, hidden in a pattern of diamond and rubellite scales, is a turtle that can be transformed into a brooch. An appearance made possible by an ingenious system which allows two tiny clips to be folded down.

Cartier’s homage to the animal kingdom, aptly named Nature Sauvage, transcends mere representation, artfully blurring the boundaries between the figurative and the abstract. Editors and VIP guests delighted in deciphering the inspirations behind the magnificent pieces – necklaces, brooches, earrings, rings, and more, each evoking creatures from turtles to flamingoes.

The Koaga necklace, for instance, is a masterful yet subtle interpretation of the zebra. Its stripes are recreated with diamonds and gleaming black onyx, showcasing a bold and graphic design that centers around an emerald-cut diamond and a 6.25-carat pear-shaped rubellite.

KOAGA: The zebra, an animal dear to Cartier, holds an emerald-cut diamond and a 6.25-carat pear-shaped rubellite in its mouth. Its emblematic coat creates a graphic play of alternating onyx stripes, lines paved with brilliant- and emerald-cut diamonds allow openwork to reveal the skin.

Unsurprisingly, the panther, Cartier’s most celebrated emblem, reigns supreme within this collection. The breathtaking Panthère Jaillissante, a hybrid hand jewel, captures the essence of a panther poised to pounce, featuring an 8.63-carat Zambian emerald.

PANTHÈRE JAILLISSANTE This fully articulated ring-bracelet adds a wild energy to even the smallest of gestures. With its slender limbs, diamond coat flecked with sapphires and emerald eyes, the panther watches us, ready to pounce at any moment, as the fierce guardian of an 8.63-carat Zambian emerald.

The illustrious event drew an array of distinguished guests, including director Sofia Coppola, alongside international stars like Elle Fanning, Thai-German actress and model Kimberley Anne Woltemas, and Japanese actress and singer Anna Sawai. The gala dinner, resplendent with high jewellery creations from the maison, culminated a two-day cultural immersion into Vienna’s rich heritage, encompassing waltzes, ballets, and evening cocktails within the storied Kunsthistorisches Museum.
